Guide: How to dress on the golf course

Finally, it's time for the golf season to start! But what dress codes actually apply on the golf course? We clarify the dress codes and golf etiquette so you’re on the right course.

The number of women playing golf is increasing with each season, and along with that, the range of women’s golf clothing is expanding. Women’s golf has certain dress codes that should be followed on the course, and it’s not always easy to know how to dress. Here, you’ll find what you need to build the perfect golf wardrobe—many of the garments work just as well off the course. Function and practical details are, of course, important when it comes to workout and activewear in general, but when it comes to golf, most people follow a certain dress code where sporty meets a more preppy and elegant style.

Dress Code for Women’s Golf

These days, the strictest dress codes are starting to disappear, which can be a good thing as it makes golf more accessible to many. The rules have also traditionally been stricter for men than for women. However, “neat and clean” is a good general style guideline for golfers. But if you want clearer guidelines regarding golf attire, here they are!

Here are garments that are perfectly suitable for the golf course:

  • Tailored skirts and shorts

  • Chinos and capri pants

  • Polo shirts

  • Pullovers and tailored knit sweaters

  • Dresses, either short or knee-length

  • Vests and light jackets

  • Golf shoes that don’t damage the course

  • Clothing labeled as “golf wear”

Here are garments you should try to avoid:

  • Open sandals and flip-flops
