How to dress for winter training

You’ve definitely heard the saying: there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. And that’s true, because there really are great clothes for any weather, especially when it comes to Röhnisch's wide range of workout clothes designed for winter outdoor activities. In our collection of winter-ready workout clothes, you’ll find everything you need to keep your training going throughout the season. From lined workout tights and padded overpants to soft under-layers in "warming tech," fleece jackets, vests, running jackets, and thick, cozy long winter coats to wrap yourself in on your way to and from training.

Accessories are, of course, an important part of your winter training wardrobe – hats and gloves are essential when training in subzero temperatures. We offer hats, headbands, and other headgear designed specifically for winter training. We also have practical and convenient reflective vests, which are crucial when running, walking, or cycling during the darker hours of the day.

Layering for Outdoor Training

If you’re planning a cold outdoor session, layering is a great way to keep your body temperature steady throughout the workout. When you start your workout, you’ll want to wear a warming top closest to your body that wicks moisture, followed by a comfy fleece and a padded vest as your top layer. Gloves, a hat, and a soft neck warmer are, of course, a must, and maybe even double layers on your legs (depending on the temperature). As your heart rate increases, you can peel off layers one at a time, avoiding getting too hot during the workout. However, remember to put something warm on right after the workout to avoid cooling down too quickly. A thick puffer jacket or, even better, a long winter coat is the perfect garment to throw on over your workout clothes on your way home from training.

Dress Right for Cycling and Running

If you’re planning a run during lunch or perhaps a cycling session on your way to and from work, you might not have the opportunity to peel off layers as you go, since you need to be able to store the clothes you’re not using somewhere. A backpack is a solution, but if you want to minimize the number of clothes under your desk, consider opting for a "warming outdoor kit." Yes, you’ll probably feel a bit cold when you first step out, but as soon as you get moving and your heart rate increases, we promise that the warmth will come. However, if you have several layers and maybe a bulky jacket on top, your run or bike ride can become unnecessarily tough. And sweaty! Instead, make sure to get your heart rate up so you don’t get too hot. A thin winter hat and gloves are always recommended when it’s really cold outside.

Be prepared for the unexpected

Sometimes, you just don’t get around to your planned workout, and that’s okay! But if you get the chance for an unplanned workout – take it! It could be a day at the skating rink or in the sledding hill. Instead of standing and shivering at the edge, offer to pull the sled and maybe even the kids, up the hill between runs. And try to pick up the pace! Running up and down a sledding hill can be as tough as any trail running! Opt for warm pants that you can still move smoothly in. Lined tights or workout tights with padded pants on top are perfect for the sledding hill or skating rink. While the kids are over pushing the goal, take a few quick laps on the ice and feel your legs working! A thin workout top that keeps you warm while breathing and releasing moisture is comfortable to wear closest to your body under a fleece jacket or a thin, padded jacket on top.
